2021 Beyond the Threshold | Chardonnay
$65.00
The hero journeys through a world of unfamiliar yet strangely intimate forces.
Delicate notes of white peach, key lime, and acacia transport the sense to the south facing slopes of this high elevation Sonoma Coast site. Each swirl in the glass allows this wine to gain weight and concentration, as more feminine floral notes transform into supple flavors of ripe pear and honeysuckle.
THE VINEYARD SITE
Beyond the unquestionable allure and beauty of Sonoma County lie an amazing number of microclimates, soil conditions, and distinct geographies conducive to growing and making wonderful wines. This incredible diversity has resulted in over sixteen sub regions in this county alone, one of which is the Sonoma Coast. The 2019 vintage marks the first iteration of Beyond the Threshold. The wine is born from vines on a South-facing slope and is comprised of barrel selection of one distinct clone of Chardonnay (Clone 95) from one vineyard site.
THE CRAFT
This exclusive small lot was harvested at night on September 20th and carefully transferred to the winery as the sun began to rise. The fruit was hand sorted and only the most pristine clusters reserved before being gently pressed in a small bladder press. The free-run juice was meticulously separated by taste, then settled overnight in stainless steel tanks before being transferred to barrels for native and malolactic fermentation in 33% new French oak. This wine was aged in 33% new French oak over a period of 15 months, then bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Alc: 14.1%
Cases produced: 125 cases (9L equivalent) – 750 mL
THE MEANING BEHIND THE NAME
The realm of the gods is a forgotten dimension of the world we know. And the exploration of that dimension, either willingly or unwillingly, is the whole sense of the deed of the hero. This Chardonnay single bottling represents Bibiana’s commitment to craft exceptional white wines from California, after years of education in France and laser focused training making Chardonnay around the world.
